Frame Options
JELD-WEN offers a diverse range of frame options designed to complement various architectural styles and homeowner preferences. These frame materials are engineered for durability, energy efficiency, and aesthetic appeal, ensuring a lasting and attractive addition to any home.
The primary frame materials available from JELD-WEN include:
- Wood: For those seeking a classic and natural look, JELD-WEN provides high-quality wood frames. These frames offer excellent insulation properties and can be painted or stained to match existing decor. Wood frames are a popular choice for traditional and historic homes, offering timeless beauty and a warm aesthetic.
- Vinyl: Vinyl frames are a practical and low-maintenance option. They are known for their excellent energy efficiency, helping to reduce heating and cooling costs. Vinyl is resistant to rot, corrosion, and fading, making it a durable choice for various climates. JELD-WEN vinyl frames are available in a selection of colors to suit different exterior designs.
- Aluminum-Clad Wood: This innovative option combines the natural beauty and insulating qualities of wood on the interior with the low-maintenance durability of aluminum on the exterior. The aluminum cladding protects the wood from the elements, preventing warping, rotting, and insect damage, while still allowing for a warm and inviting interior wood finish.
- Fiberglass: Fiberglass frames offer superior strength, durability, and energy efficiency. They are highly resistant to expansion and contraction due to temperature changes, which helps maintain a tight seal and prevent drafts. Fiberglass frames can mimic the look of wood without the associated maintenance requirements and are available in various finishes.
The specific frame options available may vary depending on the window style selected from JELD-WEN's extensive collection, which includes Awning, Casement, Double Hung, Single Hung, Sliding Horizontal, Garden, Fixed, Radius & Geometric, Tilt-Turn, Bay, and Bow windows.
Glass Options
JELD-WEN offers a variety of glass options to enhance the performance, aesthetics, and energy efficiency of their windows. These options are designed to meet diverse needs, from improved insulation to enhanced privacy and safety.
Standard Glass
All JELD-WEN windows come with standard clear glass, providing unobstructed views and natural light. This glass is a reliable choice for general use, offering clarity and durability.
Energy-Efficient Glass Packages
JELD-WEN provides several energy-efficient glass packages to help reduce energy consumption and improve comfort:
- Low-E Glass: This is a foundational upgrade for energy efficiency. Low-E (Low-Emissivity) coatings are microscopically thin and virtually invisible. They reflect infrared light (heat) while allowing visible light to pass through. In winter, this helps keep heat inside your home, reducing heating costs. In summer, it reflects the sun's heat away, minimizing cooling needs.
- Argon Gas Fill: An inert gas, argon is denser than air and is used to fill the space between glass panes in double- and triple-pane windows. Argon gas acts as an additional insulator, further reducing heat transfer and improving the overall energy performance of the window.
- Double-Pane (Insulated Glass Units - IGUs): These units consist of two panes of glass separated by a spacer, creating an insulating air or gas-filled gap. This is a standard upgrade for improved thermal performance compared to single-pane windows.
- Triple-Pane (IGUs): Offering the highest level of energy efficiency, triple-pane windows feature three panes of glass with two insulating gaps. This configuration significantly reduces heat transfer, making them ideal for extreme climates or for homeowners looking to maximize energy savings.
- SmartSun™ Glass: This is a specific Low-E coating offered by JELD-WEN that is engineered to block significantly more solar heat gain while still allowing plenty of visible light to enter your home. It's particularly beneficial in warmer climates or for windows that receive direct, intense sunlight.
Decorative and Privacy Glass
For areas where privacy or a decorative touch is desired, JELD-WEN offers:
- Obscure Glass: This type of glass is designed to obscure vision while still allowing light to pass through. It's an excellent choice for bathrooms, entry doors, or any area where privacy is a priority without sacrificing natural light.
- Tinted Glass: Available in various colors, tinted glass can reduce glare and solar heat gain. It also adds a distinct aesthetic element to the window and the home's exterior.
Safety and Security Glass
JELD-WEN also offers glass options that enhance safety and security:
- Tempered Glass: Also known as safety glass, tempered glass is heat-treated to be stronger than standard glass. If it breaks, it shatters into small, relatively harmless pieces, reducing the risk of injury. This is often required in certain applications by building codes.
- Laminated Glass: Composed of two or more panes of glass bonded together with an interlayer (typically PVB), laminated glass offers enhanced security and safety. If broken, the glass fragments adhere to the interlayer, holding the pane together and providing a barrier against intrusion and falling glass. It also offers improved sound dampening properties.
The specific glass options available may vary depending on the JELD-WEN window product line and style chosen.
Options-Styles
JELD-WEN offers a diverse range of style options to complement any architectural design and homeowner preference for their windows and skylights.
The following window styles are available:
- Awning Windows: These windows hinge at the top and open outward, providing excellent ventilation and protection from rain.
- Casement Windows: Hinged at the side, casement windows crank open outward, offering unobstructed views and efficient ventilation.
- Double Hung Windows: Featuring two operable sashes that slide up and down independently, allowing for ventilation from both the top and bottom.
- Single Hung Windows: Similar to double hung, but only the bottom sash slides upward for ventilation.
- Sliding Horizontal Windows: These windows slide open from side to side, ideal for areas where outward or upward opening is not feasible.
- Garden Windows: These are three-dimensional windows that project outward from the exterior wall, creating a sunlit nook often used for plants.
- Fixed Windows: Also known as picture windows, these do not open and are designed purely for light and views.
- Radius & Geometric Windows: Offering custom shapes and sizes, these windows add unique architectural interest.
- Tilt-Turn Windows: These versatile windows can swing inward for cleaning or tilt inward from the top for ventilation.
- Bay Windows: These windows project outward from the building, creating a larger interior space and offering panoramic views.
- Bow Windows: Similar to bay windows, bow windows feature a more curved, multi-panel design that also projects outward.
Construction and materials
JELD-WEN offers a diverse range of windows, catering to various architectural styles and functional needs. Their product line includes Awning, Casement, Double Hung, Single Hung, Sliding Horizontal, Garden, Fixed, Radius & Geometric, Tilt-Turn, Bay, and Bow windows. Each type is designed with specific operational features and aesthetic considerations in mind, providing homeowners and builders with a broad spectrum of choices.
The construction of JELD-WEN windows typically involves durable materials selected for their performance and longevity. While specific material compositions can vary depending on the product line and series chosen, common materials include:
- Frames: Often constructed from vinyl, wood, or composite materials. Vinyl frames are known for their low maintenance and energy efficiency. Wood frames offer a classic aesthetic and can be painted or stained to match interior decor. Composite frames combine the benefits of wood and vinyl, offering enhanced durability and resistance to warping.
- Sash: The moving part of the window, which holds the glass. Sash construction aligns with the frame materials, utilizing vinyl, wood, or composite components.
- Glass: JELD-WEN windows frequently incorporate energy-efficient glass options. This can include double-pane or triple-pane glazing for improved insulation, as well as Low-E (low-emissivity) coatings that reflect heat. Argon or krypton gas fills between panes further enhance thermal performance.

The specific construction details and material options will vary across JELD-WEN's extensive window categories. For instance, their Casement windows are designed with a crank-out mechanism for unimpeded views and ventilation, while Double Hung windows feature sashes that slide vertically for traditional operation. Garden windows extend outward from the home, creating a shelf-like space, and are often constructed with multiple glass panels and a self-supporting base.
Price Tier
JELD-WEN offers a broad spectrum of windows, encompassing various styles and material options. Their product lines are strategically positioned across multiple price tiers, allowing consumers to select windows that align with their budget and quality expectations. Generally, JELD-WEN's offerings span from more budget-conscious vinyl and composite options to higher-end wood and clad-wood products designed for enhanced aesthetics and performance. JELD-WEN Vinyl Windows (e.g., V-2500, V-4500) Market Position: Budget / Value ($) to Mid-Range ($$) How It Compares: These vinyl windows provide a cost-effective solution compared to traditional wood or premium clad-wood alternatives, offering a significant upgrade in energy efficiency and low maintenance over very basic, uninsulated window units. Construction and materials
Marvin offers a comprehensive range of windows and skylights designed with robust construction and carefully selected materials to ensure durability, performance, and aesthetic appeal. The manufacturer's commitment to quality is evident in the underlying engineering and the choice of components that form the backbone of their product line.
The construction of Marvin windows and skylights typically involves a strong frame system. While specific materials can vary slightly depending on the product line and customization options, common frame materials include high-quality wood, engineered wood composites, fiberglass, and vinyl. Wood frames, often sourced from sustainably managed forests, provide a classic and natural aesthetic, offering excellent insulation properties. For enhanced durability and resistance to rot and insects, Marvin may utilize treated woods or specialized composite materials that replicate the look of wood while offering superior performance in various climates.
Fiberglass frames, a hallmark of many Marvin windows, are known for their exceptional strength and stability. This material is resistant to expansion and contraction caused by temperature fluctuations, which helps maintain the window's integrity and prevent air and water leaks. Fiberglass is also non-conductive, contributing to improved energy efficiency. Vinyl frames, where offered, are chosen for their low maintenance requirements and cost-effectiveness, while still providing good thermal performance.
Glazing systems in Marvin windows are engineered for optimal thermal performance and clarity. High-performance glass options are standard, often featuring multiple panes of glass (double or triple pane) separated by inert gas fills such as argon or krypton. These gas fills act as insulators, reducing heat transfer and improving energy efficiency. Low-E (low-emissivity) coatings are frequently applied to the glass surfaces. These microscopically thin coatings reflect radiant heat, keeping homes cooler in the summer by preventing heat gain and warmer in the winter by reducing heat loss.
The specific construction details extend to the sash and frame interfaces. Precision engineering ensures a tight seal, utilizing weatherstripping materials that are designed to withstand UV exposure and extreme temperatures, thereby preventing drafts and moisture intrusion. Hardware components, including locks, hinges, and operators, are selected for their durability and smooth operation, often made from robust metals that resist corrosion and wear.
Marvin's product categories encompass a wide array of window types, each with specific construction nuances tailored to their function and design. Awning windows, for instance, are hinged at the top and open outward, requiring sturdy hinges and a reliable locking mechanism. Casement windows are hinged at the side and crank open, demanding a robust cranking mechanism and a secure locking system that engages at multiple points. Double-hung windows feature sashes that slide vertically, with track systems designed for smooth operation and effective weather sealing.
Architectural shapes and specialty windows, known for their unique designs, require skilled craftsmanship and precise fabrication to maintain structural integrity and aesthetic integrity. Corner, bay, and bow windows, which extend outward from the building, are constructed with reinforced frames and specialized joinery to ensure stability and weather resistance. Hopper windows, typically installed in basements, are hinged at the bottom and open inward, requiring durable hinges and a secure closure.
Tilt-turn windows offer versatile functionality, allowing for both inward tilting for ventilation and side-hinged inward opening for cleaning. This dual operation necessitates a sophisticated hardware system and a robust frame construction. Gliding windows operate on tracks, similar to sliding doors, requiring well-engineered tracks and seals for ease of use and weatherproofing. Round top and other specialty shapes are often custom-fabricated, utilizing advanced manufacturing techniques to achieve complex curves and precise fits.
The materials used in these various window types are chosen to meet stringent performance standards, including energy efficiency ratings, structural integrity, and long-term durability. The combination of quality materials and meticulous construction techniques forms the foundation of Marvin's reputation for producing high-performance windows and skylights.
Frame Options
Marvin Windows and Doors offers a diverse range of frame options designed to meet various aesthetic preferences, performance requirements, and architectural styles. These options are integral to the overall design and functionality of their window and skylight products.
The primary frame material available from Marvin is Ultrex® fiberglass. This proprietary material is renowned for its exceptional strength, durability, and low maintenance. Ultrex fiberglass is eight times stronger than vinyl and performs comparably to wood in terms of expansion and contraction, making it highly resistant to warping, sagging, and corrosion. Its robust nature allows for slimmer sightlines, maximizing glass area for enhanced views and natural light. Ultrex fiberglass is also available in a variety of durable, factory-applied exterior colors, offering long-lasting beauty without the need for painting.
In addition to Ultrex fiberglass, Marvin also offers wood interiors on many of their product lines. This option provides the natural warmth and classic aesthetic of wood, which can be stained or painted to complement any interior design. The wood interiors are typically available in species such as pine, oak, and maple, offering a premium and customizable finish. When paired with a durable exterior material, such as Marvin's Ultrex fiberglass, these wood-clad windows and doors offer the best of both worlds: the beauty of wood inside and the low-maintenance performance of fiberglass outside.
For certain product lines, particularly within their architectural and historic-inspired collections, Marvin may also offer clade aluminum exteriors. This option provides a strong and weather-resistant exterior finish that is particularly suitable for historically sensitive projects or applications where extreme durability is paramount. The aluminum is typically coated with a high-performance finish that resists fading and chalking, ensuring long-term aesthetic appeal.
Marvin's frame options are engineered with attention to detail, ensuring excellent thermal performance and energy efficiency. The construction of the frames, combined with high-performance glazing, contributes to reduced energy costs and improved comfort within a home or building. The specific frame profiles and construction methods will vary depending on the window type, such as awning windows, casement windows, double-hung windows, and architectural shapes, ensuring optimal performance and design integration for each application.
Glass Options
Marvin Windows and Doors offers a comprehensive range of glass options designed to enhance performance, aesthetics, and comfort in your home. These options cater to various needs, including energy efficiency, light control, privacy, and sound reduction.
High-Performance Glazing:
- Low E2 Glass: This is a standard on most Marvin windows, significantly improving energy efficiency. It features a microscopically thin, transparent coating that reflects infrared heat. In colder climates, it helps keep heat inside, reducing heating costs. In warmer climates, it reflects solar heat away from your home, lowering cooling costs.
- Low E3 Glass: An advanced option, Low E3 glass provides even greater energy efficiency by reflecting more solar heat. It's particularly beneficial in high solar heat gain environments.

- Triple-Pane Glass: For maximum thermal performance and sound reduction, Marvin offers triple-pane glass configurations. This involves three panes of glass separated by insulating gas fills, creating multiple thermal barriers.
Specialty Glass Options:
- Obscure Glass: Available in various patterns and textures, obscure glass is ideal for areas where privacy is desired, such as bathrooms and entryways. It allows light to pass through while obscuring the view.
- Tempered Glass: This safety glass is heat-treated to be stronger and more resistant to shattering. When it does break, it crumbles into small, relatively harmless pieces, making it a crucial safety feature in certain applications, like doors and low windows.
- Laminated Glass: Composed of two or more panes of glass bonded together with an interlayer, laminated glass offers enhanced security, sound reduction, and UV protection. It can help block out harmful UV rays that can fade carpets and furniture.
- Etched Glass: Offers a decorative, frosted appearance for aesthetic appeal and privacy.
Decorative Glass:
- V-Grooved Glass: Features precisely cut, shallow grooves that create linear decorative patterns.
- Grids & Grilles: Marvin provides various grid and grille options, including between-the-glass (Simulated Divided Lites - SDLs and Simulated Divided Lites - True) and exterior grilles, to enhance the architectural style of the window. These are not technically glass options themselves but are often considered in conjunction with glass selection for aesthetic purposes.
Gas Fills:
- Argon Gas: Standard in many Marvin windows, argon is an inert gas placed between glass panes. It's denser than air and acts as a better insulator, further improving the window's thermal performance.
- Krypton Gas: For even higher performance, especially in triple-pane windows or narrow air spaces, krypton gas can be used. It offers superior insulating properties to argon.
Tinting and Colors:
- Marvin offers tinted glass options that reduce visible light transmission and solar heat gain, providing a subtle color enhancement and glare reduction.

Frame Options
Ply Gem Windows offers a variety of frame options designed to complement different architectural styles and meet various performance needs. These frame choices are integral to the window's overall aesthetic, durability, and energy efficiency.
When selecting Ply Gem windows, customers can typically choose from several distinct frame materials, each with its own set of advantages:
- Vinyl: This is a popular and versatile option known for its low maintenance, excellent insulation properties, and affordability. Vinyl frames are resistant to rot, corrosion, and peeling, making them a durable choice for a variety of climates. They are also available in a wide range of colors and finishes to match any home exterior.
- Wood: For those seeking a more traditional and warm aesthetic, wood frames offer classic beauty and can be stained or painted to match interior décor. Wood frames provide good insulation but typically require more maintenance than vinyl to protect against moisture and pests.
- Aluminum: Aluminum frames are known for their strength and slim profiles, which can allow for larger glass areas and a more contemporary look. They are also resistant to corrosion and decay. However, aluminum can be a less efficient insulator compared to vinyl or wood, and thermal breaks are often incorporated to improve performance.
- Composite: Composite frames are engineered materials that combine wood fibers with polymers. This blend aims to offer the aesthetic appeal of wood with the low maintenance and durability of vinyl. Composite frames are resistant to warping, rotting, and insect damage.
The specific frame construction can also vary. For instance, some frames might feature multi-chambered designs for enhanced thermal performance and structural integrity. Reinforcements within the frame, such as aluminum or steel, can be incorporated in certain designs to provide additional strength, particularly for larger window units.
Furthermore, frame profiles are designed with both appearance and functionality in mind. Slimmer profiles might be chosen for a modern aesthetic, while more robust profiles can offer a more traditional look and accommodate thicker, more energy-efficient glass packages.
Customers should consider how the chosen frame material and construction will impact:
- Aesthetics: How the frame will look with the home's existing architecture and landscaping.
- Durability and Maintenance: The level of upkeep required and the frame's resistance to environmental factors.
- Energy Efficiency: How well the frame material and its construction contribute to insulating the home and reducing energy costs.
- Cost: The initial investment associated with each frame option.
By offering a range of frame options, Ply Gem Windows aims to provide solutions that meet the diverse needs and preferences of homeowners and builders.
Glass Options
Ply Gem Windows offers a comprehensive range of glass options designed to enhance the performance, aesthetics, and comfort of their diverse window product line. These options cater to various needs, from energy efficiency and UV protection to privacy and decorative appeal.
The core of Ply Gem's glass offerings revolves around their focus on energy efficiency and comfort. Many of their windows come standard with double-pane insulated glass units (IGUs). These units consist of two panes of glass separated by a sealed space filled with air or an inert gas like Argon. This construction significantly reduces heat transfer, keeping homes cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, leading to potential energy savings.
Low-E Glass Coatings
A key component of Ply Gem's energy-efficient glass is the application of Low-E (low-emissivity) coatings. These microscopically thin, transparent coatings are applied to the glass surface and are designed to reflect infrared light, which is the primary source of heat. Depending on the climate and desired outcome, different types of Low-E coatings are available:
- Low-E 366: This is a highly popular and versatile option. It is designed to block a significant amount of solar heat gain, making it ideal for warmer climates. It also effectively reflects interior heat back into the home during colder months, contributing to year-round energy savings. Low-E 366 also boasts excellent visible light transmittance, allowing ample natural light into the home.
- Other Low-E Options: While Low-E 366 is prominently featured, Ply Gem may offer other Low-E variations tailored for specific performance needs, such as maximizing solar heat gain in cooler climates or optimizing for different levels of solar heat rejection.
Gas Fills
To further enhance the insulating properties of their IGUs, Ply Gem utilizes inert gas fills. These gases, denser than air, are injected into the space between the glass panes. Argon is commonly used due to its excellent insulating qualities and cost-effectiveness. Krypton gas may also be available for applications requiring even higher thermal performance.
Tempered and Laminated Glass
For safety and security, Ply Gem offers tempered and laminated glass options:
- Tempered Glass: Also known as safety glass, tempered glass is heat-treated to increase its strength and make it shatter into small, relatively harmless pieces when broken. This is often required in specific locations, such as near doors, in bathrooms, or at floor level, to meet building codes.
- Laminated Glass: Laminated glass consists of two or more panes of glass bonded together with a layer of plastic interlayer, typically polyvinyl butyral (PVB). This construction makes it highly resistant to breaking and penetration. When broken, the glass fragments adhere to the interlayer, reducing the risk of injury. Laminated glass also offers enhanced sound dampening properties and UV protection.
Decorative and Privacy Glass
Ply Gem also provides decorative and privacy glass options to add aesthetic appeal and functional benefits to windows:
- Textured/Privacy Glass: These options feature patterned or frosted surfaces that obscure the view through the glass while still allowing light to pass. They are commonly used in bathrooms, entryways, and other areas where privacy is desired.
- Grids and Grilles: While not a glass type itself, grids and grilles are decorative elements that can be installed within or on the surface of the glass. Ply Gem offers a variety of styles, including simulated divided lites (SDLs), grilles between the glass (GBG), and applied grilles, to achieve different architectural looks.
The specific glass options available may vary depending on the particular Ply Gem window model and series. It is recommended to consult the product specifications for each window type to determine the exact glass configurations offered.
Options-Styles
Ply Gem Windows offers a diverse range of style options designed to complement any architectural aesthetic. Their product line encompasses various window types, each with its own unique operational and visual characteristics.
For contemporary and traditional homes alike, the **Awning Window** provides excellent ventilation and protection from the elements when open. It hinges at the top and swings outward, allowing for fresh air even during light rain.
The **Casement Window** is a popular choice for its unobstructed views and superior energy efficiency. These windows crank open outward, offering wide ventilation. Their tight seal when closed minimizes air leakage, contributing to a more comfortable and energy-conscious home.
For classic home designs, **Double Hung Windows** are a staple. They feature two operable sashes that slide vertically past each other, allowing for ventilation from both the top and bottom. Both sashes are typically designed to tilt inward for easy cleaning.
The **Single Hung Window** presents a more traditional aesthetic. In this design, only the bottom sash slides upward to open, while the top sash remains stationary. Like double-hung windows, the operable sash often tilts in for convenient maintenance.
**Sliding Horizontal Windows** (also known as gliding windows) offer a sleek and modern look, particularly well-suited for wider openings or spaces where outward or inward projection is not desired. One or both sashes glide horizontally along tracks, providing smooth operation and good ventilation.
The **Garden Window** is a unique and charming option, extending outward from the home to create a mini-greenhouse. This style typically features a glass top that opens for ventilation and provides an ideal spot for growing herbs and plants, while also allowing ample natural light to enter the room.
For expansive views and a contemporary feel, **Window Walls** are available. These large-format window systems can span significant areas, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living spaces and maximizing natural light and scenic vistas. This option is often comprised of multiple window units joined together to create a unified glass wall.
Across these styles, Ply Gem Windows emphasizes options that contribute to energy efficiency, durability, and aesthetic appeal, catering to a wide spectrum of homeowner needs and preferences.

Frame Options
Quaker Windows offers a versatile selection of frame options designed to complement various architectural styles and functional needs. The frame materials are engineered for durability, energy efficiency, and aesthetic appeal.
The primary frame material available is:
- Vinyl: Quaker Windows utilizes high-quality vinyl frames. Vinyl is a popular choice due to its excellent insulating properties, low maintenance requirements, and resistance to warping, rotting, and fading. This makes it a cost-effective and long-lasting option for homeowners.
Beyond the material, Quaker Windows provides options for frame finishes and configurations:
- Color Options: While specific color availability can vary by product line, Quaker Windows generally offers a range of popular exterior and interior color choices to match your home's design. This allows for customization to achieve the desired look.
- Frame Profiles: The design of the frame profile can impact both the visual style and the energy performance of the window. Quaker Windows likely offers different frame profiles across their various window types (Awning, Casement, Double Hung, Single Hung, Sliding Horizontal, Specialty, Corner, Picture) to suit specific aesthetic preferences and performance requirements.
- Reinforcement: In certain window types or applications, vinyl frames may be reinforced with internal structural components to enhance their strength and rigidity, particularly for larger window openings.
The frame options are integral to the overall performance of Quaker Windows, contributing to factors such as:
- Energy Efficiency: The thermal break properties of vinyl frames, combined with the design of the frame, contribute to reducing heat transfer, which can lead to lower energy bills.
- Durability and Longevity: The robust nature of vinyl ensures resistance to environmental factors, meaning the frames are built to last.
- Low Maintenance: Vinyl frames do not require painting or staining and are easy to clean, offering a hassle-free ownership experience.
Glass Options
Glass Options
Quaker Windows offers a comprehensive range of glass options designed to enhance energy efficiency, comfort, and aesthetic appeal for your home. These options are available across their various window styles, including Awning, Casement, Double Hung, Single Hung, Sliding Horizontal, Specialty, Corner, and Picture windows.
Standard Glass Features
- Clear Glass: Provides unobstructed views and allows maximum natural light to enter your home.
Enhanced Glass Packages
For improved performance, Quaker Windows offers advanced glazing packages that go beyond standard clear glass. These packages are crucial for controlling heat transfer, reducing UV exposure, and minimizing sound transmission.
- Low-E Glass: This is a key feature for energy efficiency. Low-E (Low-Emissivity) coatings are microscopically thin, transparent layers applied to the glass surface. They work by reflecting infrared heat while still allowing visible light to pass through. This means:
- In warmer months: Low-E coatings help keep the heat outside, reducing the workload on your air conditioning system and lowering cooling costs.
- In cooler months: They help keep the heat inside, reducing the demand on your heating system and contributing to lower heating bills.
- Argon Gas Fill: Placed between the glass panes in double-pane or triple-pane units, Argon is a noble gas that is denser than air. This density creates a better insulating barrier, further slowing heat transfer and improving the overall thermal performance of the window.
- Inert Gas Fill: Similar to Argon, other inert gases can also be used to enhance insulation.
Visible Light Transmittance (VLT)
The amount of natural light that passes through the glass is measured by Visible Light Transmittance. Different Low-E coatings can be selected to optimize VLT based on your climate and preference for natural light.
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC)
SHGC measures how well a window product prevents the sun's heat from entering a home. A lower SHGC indicates that less solar heat is transmitted through the window, which is beneficial in warmer climates to reduce cooling loads.
U-Factor
The U-factor measures how well a window prevents heat from escaping a home. It is the inverse of the R-value. A lower U-factor signifies better insulating performance, meaning less heat loss in the winter and less heat gain in the summer.
Glass Configurations
- Double-Pane (Insulated Glass Units - IGUs): Two panes of glass separated by a space, often filled with Argon or other inert gases, and sealed for durability and performance.
- Triple-Pane (IGUs): Three panes of glass with two insulating spaces, offering superior thermal performance compared to double-pane units. This is ideal for regions with extreme climates or for those seeking maximum sound dampening and energy savings.
Specialty Glass Options
Beyond standard and enhanced energy-efficient options, Quaker Windows may also offer specialty glass types to address specific needs:
- Tempered Glass: This is a safety glass that is heat-treated to be stronger than normal glass. If it breaks, it shatters into small, relatively harmless pieces, rather than sharp shards. It is often required by building codes in certain locations, such as near doors, in bathrooms, or in low-level glazing.
- Laminated Glass: This glass consists of two or more layers of glass bonded together with an interlayer (typically PVB). It offers enhanced safety and security as it holds together when broken, reducing the risk of injury. It also provides improved sound insulation.
- Obscure/Privacy Glass: Designed to provide privacy by distorting or blocking the view while still allowing light to pass through. This is commonly used in bathrooms or areas where visual privacy is desired.
- Tinted Glass: Available in various shades to reduce glare and solar heat gain.
- Decorative Glass: Options may include etched, frosted, or patterned glass for aesthetic enhancement.
The specific combination of glass types, Low-E coatings, gas fills, and pane configurations will determine the overall performance ratings (VLT, SHGC, U-factor) of your Quaker Windows. Consulting with a Quaker Windows representative or dealer can help you select the optimal glass package for your home's climate, orientation, and personal preferences.

Aesthetic Appeal
- Advantage: Available in a variety of styles and finishes, Showcase Custom Vinyl Windows & Doors can enhance the curb appeal and interior design of any residence.
Frame Options
Showcase Custom Vinyl Windows & Doors offers a diverse range of frame options designed to complement various architectural styles and homeowner preferences. Each frame is engineered for durability, energy efficiency, and aesthetic appeal, ensuring a long-lasting and beautiful addition to any home.
The primary material used for Showcase windows is premium vinyl. This material is chosen for its inherent strength, resistance to warping and corrosion, and low maintenance requirements. Showcase utilizes a multi-chambered vinyl extrusion process, which enhances thermal performance by trapping air for superior insulation. This design helps to reduce heat transfer, leading to lower energy bills and increased comfort throughout the year.
The vinyl frames are available in a selection of colors designed to integrate seamlessly with exterior and interior design schemes. These colors are deeply integrated into the vinyl compound, providing a fade-resistant finish that maintains its vibrancy over time.
For specific product types, the frame construction may vary slightly to optimize performance and functionality. For instance:
- Awning Windows: Feature robust vinyl frames designed to support the unique outward-swinging mechanism while providing excellent weather resistance.
- Casement Windows: Utilize strong vinyl frames that are crucial for housing the crank-out mechanism and ensuring a tight seal when closed.
- Double Hung Windows: Incorporate durable vinyl frames that allow for the smooth operation of both the upper and lower sashes.
- Single Hung Windows: Employ sturdy vinyl frames that accommodate the vertical sliding motion of the lower sash.
- Sliding Horizontal Windows: Feature sleek vinyl frames that are engineered for the effortless gliding of the sash across the track.
- Fixed Frame / Picture Windows: Utilize strong and rigid vinyl frames to support large expanses of glass, maximizing natural light and providing unobstructed views.
In addition to the standard vinyl construction, Showcase may offer options for reinforcement within the frames to enhance structural integrity, particularly for larger window units or those in areas with demanding environmental conditions. These reinforcements are integrated discreetly within the vinyl profile, maintaining the clean aesthetic of the window.
The design of the vinyl frames also takes into account the integration of advanced glass packages. The frame profiles are precisely engineered to accommodate various types of insulated glass units, including double-pane and triple-pane options, as well as low-E coatings and argon gas fills, further contributing to the overall energy efficiency of the window system.
Glass Options
Showcase Custom Vinyl Windows & Doors offers a selection of glass options designed to enhance the performance and aesthetic of their window products. These options cater to various needs, from energy efficiency and comfort to privacy and security.
Standard Glass
- Clear Glass: This is the standard offering, providing unobstructed views and natural light.
Energy Efficient Glass Options
- Low-E Coating (Low Emissivity): Showcase Window and Door Company utilizes Low-E coatings that are microscopically thin and virtually invisible. These coatings reflect infrared light (heat) while allowing visible light to pass through.
- In summer: Low-E coatings help keep heat out, reducing cooling costs.
- In winter: They help keep heat inside, reducing heating costs.
- Insulated Glass Units (IGUs): These units consist of two or more panes of glass separated by a spacer.
- Dual-Pane: Standard IGUs are typically made with two panes of glass.
- Triple-Pane: For enhanced thermal performance, triple-pane options are available, offering superior insulation.
- Argon Gas: The space between the glass panes can be filled with Argon gas, a colorless, odorless, and non-toxic gas that is denser than air. Argon gas further improves the insulating properties of the IGU by reducing heat transfer.
Optional Glass Features
- Tempered Glass: This is a safety glass that is four to five times stronger than standard glass. When broken, tempered glass shatters into small, relatively harmless pieces, making it a safer choice for areas where impact or breakage is a concern.
- Laminated Glass: Composed of two panes of glass bonded together with a plastic interlayer. This construction offers enhanced security and noise reduction. If broken, the glass tends to stick to the interlayer, reducing the risk of sharp shards.
- Obscure/Privacy Glass: These options are designed to allow light to enter while obscuring the view from the outside, providing privacy for specific rooms.
Options-Styles
Showcase Custom Vinyl Windows & Doors offers a comprehensive range of window styles designed to complement any architectural aesthetic. These windows are crafted with durable vinyl frames, ensuring longevity and low maintenance.
The available window styles include:
- Awning Windows: These windows hinge at the top and open outward, providing excellent ventilation and rain protection.
- Casement Windows: Hinged at the side, casement windows crank open to offer unobstructed views and superior air flow.
- Double Hung Windows: Featuring two operable sashes that slide vertically past each other, these windows offer versatility in ventilation and cleaning.
- Single Hung Windows: Similar to double hung, but only the bottom sash slides upward for ventilation.
- Sliding Horizontal Windows: These windows slide open horizontally, making them ideal for wider openings and easy operation.
- Fixed Frame Windows: Also known as picture windows, these are non-operable and designed to maximize natural light and provide expansive views.
- Picture Windows: A type of fixed frame window, perfect for showcasing scenic views and bringing in ample daylight.
Each window type is available in custom configurations to meet specific project requirements. The vinyl construction ensures energy efficiency and resistance to warping, cracking, and fading, making them a durable and attractive choice for residential and commercial applications.
