TAMPING

The process of pressing PLASTIC material into a confined space using a bar or rod so that it compacts the material, removes air pockets, and causes it to mold completely to the shape of the space into which it is being pressed. TAMPING CONCRETE, which is also called RODDING (because a rod is often used to do the tamping), causes the CONCRETE to flow around REBAR and under and around WINDOW BUCKS while removing the air pockets which cause HONEYCOMBING.
